How does one get the chain guard off? It seems to be bolted in front of the tire...why did Triumph make it so hard to get to the chain???Any suggestions on how to clan & oil the chain?
The state puts so much salt down here that I go to the car wash and power wash the chain....and nothing else.
Since I live about 200 meters away, I don't worry about rust.
Then I do the same thing Mark62 does. I like PJ 1

PJ-1 is a comercial chain lube. You can get it at most cycle shops. There are multiple brands (Chain Wax, PJ-1, etc.). They come in an aerosol can, are easy to apply, and are usually formulated to stick to the chain and resist water.
IMHO power washing the chain is a bad idea...you cna force the contaminants that you're trying to get rid of deeper, and possibly past the o-rings and also you can wash away the lubricant that is sealed behind the o-rings.
I grew up in SaltLand, and I've always cleaned my chain w. kerosene and a brush, then lubed. I got that from the D.I.D. rep at a shop I worked at, and it's served me well since.
Re chain maintenance: I use WD40. To clean it, after which I give it a good hosing with Honda :wow: chain lube.
Why Honda chain lube? A few years ago, U.S. bike magazine Motorcycle Consumer News published a comparison report of a dozen or so types of chain lube. The stuff sold in a Honda-labeled can lubed well and stayed on the chain without flinging off. Good enough for me.
