If it's a 2000 up, yes. If it's a 1999 down, check the dimensions first. It will fit if the dimensions are the same.

Yep, should be fine. Varta batteries are made by Johnson Controls, same as my WallyWorld EverStart batt. It's an AGM(absorbed glass mat)batt that works great in motorcycles. It comes dry with a pre measured container of acid mix. Dump the acid in(don't worry about it not being full to the top, it's not supposed to be) and put the seal on and charge and good to go. Mine has lasted for about 3.5 years so far. For long periods of not riding(1 to 2 weeks), I disconnect the neg lead on the batt to keep the clock from running it down. I hook up a batterie tender for extended storage over 2 weeks.

Hope this helps.

me again!

just something you mentioned around disconnecting the battery to charge as the clock drains power.... would this explain my batterys death even when on the optimate?

James,
Not sure 'bout that. Just a habbit of mine now. I only use the battery tender for extended un-use. I just disconnect the battery when I know I'm not going to ride for a week or two. My original battery was a regular wet type. I kept the battery connected all the time and hooked up to the tender whenever I wasn't riding and it only lasted a couple of years. I think the design of the AGM plus only using the tender for extended periods of un-use is helping get longer life out of it.

Erv, you implied that the Everstart battery is AGM, I'm just confirming that. I'll check to see that they have my size the next time I'm in there. I'd much rather have AGM than wet plates.

This is a post in the workshop talk forum. It's an interesting read. I haven't investigated it, my system charges at 14.5+ volts most of the time per the on board volt meter.

I solved any clock drain problem. I took it out to install the Whistler motorcycle radar detector display. I now tell time on the bicycle computer installed on the left handle bar. It's a poor man's GPS, tells miles, avg. speed, top speed, time ridden, and the BEST, the MPH is accurate!

Sailfish,
Not ALL EverStart's are AGM. They do have the wet plates as well. I think your stock battery is a YB14L-A2 wet plate(5 1/4l X 3 1/2w X 6 9/16h), the AGM I think is ETX15L. Double check though to be sure the size is the same and the posts are the same and on the same side. Also, make sure it's a 14 amphour rating. For 2000 up Trophy's it's ES14BS(5 7/8l X 3 1/2w X 5 3/4h).

That is an interesting read on the charging system. I know mine charges a little low at 1000rpm idle, so I turned mine up to appx 1100-1200rpm. A little better, but I think I might investigate further.

Hope this helps.

If you have to add acid, then it's not an AGM battery. AGM's have no caps, never need refilling, you couldn't add any if you wanted to. They also are good to go right out of the box, no charging needed. I have had one in my Vulcan 750 for 2 years now. No conditioning needed, so I didn't keep it on trickle charger during the winter at all. They also say if you do keep them on a float charger, it needs to be one of the new "smart" chargers." They cost a bit more, about $80 vs. $40 for cheapo wet batt. I had a problem with the first one I had, overcranked it while trying to start the bike first time of the Spring, and melted the ground post... I took it in with me for core return when I went to buy a new one, they told me there's a 1 year free replacement, so got a brand new one for $0... not bad. That alone was worth the extra cost. BTW, I forget the brand, but bought it at Advance Auto. I know none of the local ADAP's or AutoZone's had any in stock, and I would expect to pay 50% more at a bike specific shop...
