Rear Brake Light Switch Replacement
My rear brake light has stopped working. Brake light works great from the front brake, but not from the brake pedal. When I pull the plug off the switch and short the wires, brake light works. When I press the rear pedal, the tail light dims, and the brake light doesn't come on. Sound like a faulty switch? Anyone replaced theirs? What are the odds there's a switch available in the US??

This is on a '96 Trophy w/just over 50k miles.

sounds like maybe dirty contacts - try giving it a shot of WD40 or electrical cleaner at the actuator and work it in. That may restore it.

The rear brake switch had to be replaced on my Trophy just before I bought it a couple of months ago, and the symptoms were the same.
Here in England it was only a couple of days from ordering before it arrived and It's really easy to change. Not sure how quickly you'd be able to get one in the U.S.
Just unscrew the switch body and screw on the new one, give the rear brake a quick bleed, and Robert's your mother's brother!

Good luck getting it sorted

Tried that -- no luck!

Checked the schematics last night after posting -- the switch is the same as used on a number of other Trumpets (Legend, T-bird, Tiger, Sprint ST, etcetera), so should be in stock at TMA. Of course, my local dealer didn't have it on the shelf, but I wasn't surprised there. He did promise to put it in with today's Triumph order and I should have it Tuesday/Wednesday of next week, which will be enough time for me to install & bleed the brakes before heading out to North Carolina the following Monday. And if it's not, I'll take the V-Strom 650. That gets better gas mileage, even if it's not as much fun to ride on the open road.
