Screens and turbulence
I really need some help and advice please.

I'm 6 foot tall, have a Trophy 1200 and whatever I do to the screen the turbulence is very bad - too bad to ride - I feel like I've been in a boxing match. The bike is attached to a sidecar, so I wonder if the turbulence may be caused by that - but maybe not. I've tried the standard screen - hopeless. The standard with a laminar lip - absolutely terrible. Standard screen cut down - slightly better. I also tried these with the sidecar screen removed in case that is causing the problem - still no good.

The only thing that works is to ride standing up so I'm right up in the breeze, or to ride in a strong wind but with the wind behind me. I'm wondering if a low sport screen might do the trick but there are none for sale here in the UK, that I can find. If I can't solve this soon I'll soon be an ex-Trophy owner.

Anybody got a wind tunnel?

Head bashing!
I use the +2 inch taller Clearview and have no issues at all. With the stock screen,I make sure I set up right as possible and it seems to help. It`s that point right at the edge of the airstream coming over the screen that seems to get me!!

I just installed a Clearview sport shield and it worked wonders! I love how smooth it made the airflow. Check out their site and see if they can ship to you. The total height is 16 inches, but is sloped differently and makes it work like a much shorter shield than the stock one.

Lamar windshield
I put on an additional Lamar and sure enough at about 80 it starts to vibrate. Not too bad. I can go 120 and it shimmies but not enough to worry about. The velcro that comes with it won't hold at those speeds and especially when wet. So I made small drill holes, used washers and solidified it a little more. Still vibrates more than I want but the extra protection helps.

I have a 'Visual Screens' low profile fitted, it's much better than the OEM screen. They are a excellent outfit to deal with, and will post worldwide;o) They also look better IMO!

I cut down the stock screen very low and then added a lamilar lip. Let's face it men, these things are terrible as far as wind management is concerned. I don't believe it has alot to do with the shields, IMHO it is the total size of the fairing, the "foot print". These are massive bikes that stir up the atmosphere at high speeds. The problem is, Triumph tried to make them aero-dynamic rather than go the Gold-wing route. I work on cars. Late model autos are so aero-dynamic you can't role the windows down on the freeway, they're so noisy. You can hear the mirrors cutting the air thru the side-glass. The turbulence behind late model cars is incredible. The buffetting we feel is mostly from behind the bike, not what passes over the sheild. Either get the biggest windshield possible or the smallest. I went small and will soon invest in the best most soundproof helmet on the market.
Any suggestions on which helmet is best would be appreciated.

I'm 6-3. I tried a Laminar on the stock shield and it made the turbulence worse and blasted it right in my face. I switched to an oversize Clearview (16" I think) and it is 100% better. Still some rumble on the helmet, but my Shoei is very quiet, so it's OK.

I have the same issues and will probably try cutting the stock screen down by a few inches. The solution may also lie in proper venting--some aftermarket screens have vent holes cut on the left and right sides.

Maybe there is a way to elevate the screen off the fairing similar to a Honda ST or a BMW RT? Aside from having nice adjustable screens, there is a gap where air flows up under the windscreen. I'm guessing this eliminates vacuum?

12" sport screen from clearview is better. You get wind in your face, but less turbulence.

I am 6' 2" and I have the clearview screen that in 3" over stock. I had the vents cut in it too. It is great, I can get a breeze in my face but the windnoise is nearly non existant.

You may try a different helmet. I had a problem with an HJC helmet buffeting real bad with my stock screen years ago. When I switched to the Nolan N100 all was good. Now I use the Caberg and love it.

Just a theory...
