Set the float height to 14.5mm. Pilot screws out 2.5 turns from lightly seated and it should be just fine. Lowering the level can cause it to run lean. Also, check the float valves to ensure the rubber seals are good. After everything is cleaned and re-assembled and re-installed, make sure to sync the carbs and set idle to appx 1100-1200RPM's with engine hot(cold will idle appx 900-1000). Also, use the center stand for extended periods of unuse, the float valves sometimes leak a little on the side stand as the fuel evaps out of the bowls. Periodicly check the fuel petcock to ensure no fuel leaks when in the RUN and RES position with the engine off. If it leaks, it can flood the engine(sounds like that is what happend to yours). If it leaks, get it repaired ASAP. Check all the fuel lines and replace if dry-rotted, cracked, split, or gummy(5/16" ID auto fuel line), the same with the vacuum line from the #3 carb to the petcock(1/8" ID auto vacuum line).
Hope this helps.
