Will the "early" style factory heated handgrips fit on a "later" 1999> model. If not what is the difference and can they be modified to work?

Look into "Hot Grips". Mine were under 30 bucks. I installed them under a set of foam grips. Total cost was under $40 and they work fine.

I've fitted a set of Oxford hot grips to my '96 Trident. Ive been through 2 winters with them now and I'm very pleased with them. Thye have adjustable temperature and they automatically cut out when the engine's turned off.
