Should i enter the fold?

Hi Guys

1st post and its to ask an age old question

Is this worth £600

Its a 1995 Trophy 900 with 55,000 miles on the clock. a bit tatty but I am happy to do up.

Good straight bike and I know the garage quite well.

What i am looking for is a cheap tourer for long runs.

Is 55,000 miles something to worry about?

The bike has tax and test until april 08 and has 23 miles since last test.

Should ya?

Looks all there. Are those staintune mufflers? 55K is far from worn out. $1200 american sounds like a steal to me.

Make them an offer

Have you agreed the price? If they are asking £600, offer them £500 ! Tell them you have it on good authority that the starter sprag clutch fails on the early 900 (they do) and that is an 'engine out' job (it is). Does it start cleanly? MOT? Tax? Good tyres? All these things add up. The trouble with older bikes is they can end up costing twice as much by the time you get them sorted. This I know from expensive experience. I wish now, that I had waited and bought the newest Trophy I could. The expenditure would have ended up about the same but I wouldn't have expended so much time and emotional energy ! If I were the owner of that 900, I'd be open to any 'reasoned' offer. If you search around the threads here you will find plenty of food for thought. Good luck whatever you decide and do let us know.
John.
