Well guys I seem to have developed a split right in the middle of my orginal Trophy 900 seat right where it come up to meet the passangers seat . Now, I obviously need another saddle but I want to make sure I get a real good one. I have looked at the corbins and the gel seats and I know that we have had this discussion before, but do any of you have more words of wisdom on this one?

Bob

If you are gonna upgrade your seat, I would suggest you bypass the Corbin and other off the rack units and just get a real custom seat. My suggestion (from prior experience on other bikes) would be Rick Mayer. You send him the seat pan and he makes you a true custom seat. For the rider section only being custom, passenger as stock and covered in vynil, it's $330 US. The seat he makes is just plain better than Corbin. The advantage to Corbin is that you don't have to give up your seat pan while its being made. But the Corbin is still a one size fits most (sort of kinda we hope). The Mayer is made for you, where you sit on the bike, your weight, hip width, etc. He has a form to fill out and requires 2 photos of you on the bike. His Brother Bill Mayer makes a very very similar seat (they are the same) and Russell makes the Day long saddle which was developed by Rick and Bill's dad. The Russell actually uses a spring in it like a car seat. All 3 are the best you can get for real comfort. Rick is the cheapest though.

I bought the corbin for my 02 1200 and the quality isn't there any more. The workmanship isn't even close to the one I bought for my old K-bike.
While I got a good deal ($230.00) It really does take 1000k to break in. Once it's broken in they are hard to beat. As for a passenger, the pillion needs a 1000k as well.

Good Luck,
If I need to do another saddle it will be a Sargent.

Thanks guys.

I like the sound of getting a custom, and with the UK pound to dollar ratio it will be a bargain.

By the way I tried to get hold of these guys (Rick, etc) and they don't seem to be answering the emails.

Any ideas?

My seat split a couple of years back, and I got it recovered at a local car trimmers for fifty quid. As long as the foam's good the seat will be as good as new.

I would also recommend Sargent for custom work. They've transformed bad seats into all day comfort for me.

Hi Bob,

Some additional information that may help?

The seats offered by Triumph-ant may be of interest to you? triumph-ant seats - (Glamorganshire).
Also Sprint Manifacturing offer a replacement seat Sprint - (Wiltshire).

If you want to use your existing seat as a basis, I have heard good reports of these people: www.motorcycleseats.co.uk - (Gloucestershire).

Ciao, Geoff
