Question Fuel leak

I want to buy a 1200 Trophy and tonight I looked at a 2000 with only 8,000km on the odometer. The bike started fine, ran a little rough but after a couple minutes had a small puddle of gas under the bike. We shut if off, then what looked to be a mix of gas and oil started to pour out from around the left side airbox area, the end result was a huge puddle around the bike.
The owner said that he put most of the mileage on in 2000 and rode it a little last summer and had no problems with fuel leaks.

I am wondering if starting it in the cold (-11C) could be causing problems with seals, etc.

Obviously I don't want to buy a lemon but if this is a known problem with an easy fix I can probably negotiate a better price and do the work myself. Any opinions/ideas would be appreciated! Thanks, mcG.

That or simply a split fuel line would be my first guesses with the info provided. The oil is probly from the air box. If you are not mechanically inclined and have no desire to be, you might want to pass on it. If it has been setting up for long there are a number of other issues you could face. Give me a well maintained high milege bike any day over a barn find.

If you are mechanically inclined, and the bike is at a good price it may be a fun project. These bikes are very straight forward. You can pretty much break one down and fix anything on the side of the road. Oh, and the engines run forever.
