This '96 Trophy has less than 500-miles on the clock; should I be more patient and find a later model to benefit from engineering refinements ?
Also, what kind of 'recall history' should I be aware of on this model ? On the surface, the bike looks like a bargain (the seller sez $800-worth of inspections were made recently) .
I'm currently riding a '96 Adventurer, which I love . My hope is that I'll win the bidding for the Trophy. I'm hoping, also, that you 'experts' will allay my fears about making a sound decision .
Ride safe !

Keep bidding and then have the final drive gearing changed to give you less revolutions for a better cruising specification and you have a late model bike. Very few developments worth worrying about as the bikes were always well sorted mechanically.

I just bought a 96 with 750 miles on it. When I got the bike, it ran like crap. The bike had been sittingfor a couple years, and the owner just had the carbs rebuilt, and new battery($800 also). I guess the shop that rebuilt them didnt do it right, but after replacing the carbs, it runs fine. I also had to replace the petcock since it was leaking due to a dry rotted seal. One other problem I found was the tires were starting to crack.

Just some things to think about.

The later model (2000 and later I think) upper fairings and windshields were improved to provide better protection.

Was it just cosmetic changes between the pre '96 and post '96 models, or did they make changes to the main and subframes.
Do they all carry the heavy tubular spine?.

It was just cosmetic changes, reshaped the fairing a bit and the windshield is a little different. Same frame and everything else under the plastic.
