I am new to the forum.
I just bought 96' 900 trophy BRG. w/16,999 on the clock,
new tires, corbin seat, and full service.
She is in very clean condition, and I got a 6mo. unlimited mileage warranty with her.
After reading some posts, I must admit I am alittle worried about going on a long trip without first replacing the coils, and the crank position sensor.
I do love the feel, look, and character of the bike.
I put alot of miles on my bikes, so I hope she lasts.
Love the site and hope to learn more about the bike here.
Regards,
Ed

Ed,
Welcome aboard, lots of good info' and advice on this forum.
Sounds like you got yourself a good buy.
You say it has a full sevice history, do you know if the valve clearances were done at the 12k service, they should have been. The exhaust shim clearances are notorious for closing, and quite often before the recomended mileage check.
Enjoy your new steed. Post some pic's of the bike.

Ed,
I got my '95 1200 back in May with about 35k on the clock. Without replacing anything and only doing an oil change and adding a topbox, I rode 1839 miles round trip to Kansas and back in July. Not a single problem. The bike has a little over 42k on it now, and I've done some work to it, mostly suspension overhaul and touring upgrades for my comfort. It is a reliable bike. Believe me, the crank position sensor and coils are a far cry from the problems other bikes have.

With 17,000 miles on the clock, those items may have already been replaced. And once they're replaced, they're seemingly good for (probably) ever.
I know, I've replaced 2 coils and the crank position sensor on my Sprint 900, a machine almost identical to your Trophy, early in it's life and it's been trouble free up to the present (72,000+ miles).
I suggest, for peace of mind, that you get a spare couple of coils and a spare crank position sensor and carry them with you on long trips. They're small, not too expensive and easy to replace.

Hi Ed,
Welcome to the group. I'm sorry I didn't reply earlier but I was away for a couple of days.

Hello Yuddy, I am also new to the group. I just purchased a 1999 Trophy 1200 w/26k miles. I get lots of compliments and waves from folks on it. I switched over from a crusier, but I am glad I did.
