I've been reading the threads on coils and carb balance and have booked the trophy in to have the carbs done. I'm more at home with old BSA's and amal carbs so decided to leave it to the triumph man. Will see what the outcome is, then maybe have a look at some new coils. I'm still sure there's something wrong with the transmission tho! keep you posted.

I would be very surprised if there was something wrong with the transmission. Triumph trannys are some of the toughest in the business and have proven themselves bullet proof reliable over the years. Have the counterbalancers been adjusted recently (4-cylinder engines have them, not sure about 3-cyl)?
Chain adjustment could be a not so obvious cause of your bikes symptoms too.

Got the bake back, number 3 carb was way out so they said. It feels smoother and certainly ticks over nicely now, plus it lost that flatish spot at about 2500 - 3500 revs. Stilly a bit jerky tho - while I was there I had a demo on the Tiger and its not too much different to the trophy in that respect, so maybe i'm expecting too much. the Tiger handles very nicely and you can throw it around much more than my 1200.
