anyway, i am going to change fluids on the trophy. question... is the coolant for the trophy a special coolant or can automotive coolant be used?

Why not?

Triumph tend to spec Mobil Antifreeze mixed 50/50 with distilled water. You can buy this ready mixed, labelled as Mobil Coolant, or mix it yourself.

Mobil Antifreeze is a Mono Ethelene Glycol corrosion inhibited antifreeze.

Any Ethelene Glycol corrosion inhibited antifreeze is likely to be ok. Remember to use distilled water.

You will want to use a phosphate-free antifreeze. This would most likely include antifreeze labeled something like "compatible with aluminum radiators and engines". Another labeling clue would be "GM Dex-cool approved". I am currently using Prestone Dex-cool approved antifreeze. There are many phosphate-free manufacturers. It is generally the more expensive jug that the brand makes.

I didn't say use mobil. I said use an Ethelene glycol antifreeze. Triumph spec Mobil Antifreeze - you choose whatever brand you like.

You can use ANY Propylene Glycol Coolant designed for use in Aluminum engines in a 50/50 mix with distilled water(de-ionised water if you can find it). DO NOT USE ETHYLENE GLYCOL-IT'S POISONOUS!!!!! I also don't recommend using Dex-Cool. GM is about to get a class-action lawsuit against them because of the problems GM owners are having with plugged radiators, corrosion, leaks, overheating, blown hoses, blown head gaskets etc.(http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news0...m_dexcool.html). Personally, I use EngineIce by Cyclelogic(pre mixed with de-ionised water). But...Hey....use whatever brand you like. Just don't pollute.
