Do a 'Google' for 'Visual Screens' they are based in NZ. They do a sports screen for Trophys which is a lot less £ $ than the Clearview, and IMO looks really good (I am biased, as I have one fitted;o), also they are a very good company to do business with :-D If I get my head round it, I will post a pic of my Trophy with it fitted :???:

Please describe your feeling of "Sail Effect".

If you mean: "I am getting hit in the back of the head with wind". Then you will want a different windscreen. Others here have had luck with a Laminar lip on the stock screen.

I have a tall Clearview because I tour with the bike and I hate getting hit with bugs or what ever for hundreds and hundreds of miles.

The Trophy IS a sail in a cross wind...period. Lots of body, big rotors up front, and if you run a top box...hold on.

She isn't perfect...But she IS really really good.

Cheer's,
Tom.

lots of good info on screens here, thanx folks.

However the critical bit is " how tall is the screen now? (eg. height above ign.lock) ..... and how tall is the rider?"
Bloke I bought the bike from thort screen was great, I'm 4" taller (6ft) and I get the screen turbulence right in the eyes. It's the Triumph original 18" Tourer ( 17" above ignlock)

Does a good screen offer wind protection for face, or just the chest with head running in clear air?

When I bought my bike it had a clearview on it, and I didnt like it, reminded me of riding a goldwing, so I cut about 7" out of a stock windscreen and love it, bike looks alot better too. <snip>

Hi ThophyNorway

I want to cut my Trophy screen down - may I ask how you did it i.e. got the correct curve - did you make a template or somthing? Also what sort of aaw and did you need to do anything to finish/smooth it off.

I did try to find you photos but couldn't see where to look

Clean the screen well, let dry. Use a good quality electrical tape, on the inside(Triumph uses a coating on the outside to prevent scratches, NOTHING sticks to it!). Make your cut line with the tape, it stretches well and thru trial and error you can get it almost perfect. I used a Roto-zip. Sand paper in ever decreasing grits will get the edge smooth then I reinstalled the black plastic edging.

The "sail" effect seems to be a combination of vacuum pressure and cross-breeze turbulence. I should probably also mention I'm 6'4" tall--that certainly plays a factor in the aerodynamics of the bike.

I ordered a Clearview (with the vents) a couple weeks ago and am waiting to find out how it is going to work out for me. Be warned, I was told by Clearview that it will take atleast 5 weeks to get the product. If it works like I want, the plan is to cut down the stock screen (and tint it) for summer riding during shorter trips. I really like the larger screen for touring because that generally means over 500 miles (sometimes much much more) in a day and a larger wind, (bug, debris) sheild helps alot. You do have to watch it in crosswinds, but that is true with any bike, especially those with farings and bags.

I did not cut down the original screen. I bought a 12" sports screen from clear view. It was an option for me to cut down the original, but there was a small crack in it, so I just ordered the sport screen. And Clear view was a serious company to buy from, rapid reply of my email, and delivery as scheduled.

I went with the Clearview screen and did not want to wait their 5 weeks to get it so I chose the model they had listed as a blem and got it right away. The fine scratches have to be looked at in a bright light to be seen and the air bubbles in the black vinyl at the base of the screen are so tiny I over looked them during my initial inspection. Got it on and love it so far,i chose the two inches over stock model with the vents. :hihi:
