Hi all. Anybody know what other make of bike has caliper seals &
pistons that are the same as the '97 Trophy rear caliper? The calipers
are Nissin 2 pots. I have found some other makes and models that use
the same pads but I am not sure if the calipers are the same. I am
having a hard time swallowing $75++ for a piston/seal kit or over $35
for just 4 little rubber seals. Figured if I can find a Jap bike w/ the
same caliper the parts will be likely be half. I see some crossovers
listed in the old posts & files but they all refer to the front
calipers. Thanks for your help............ by the way, I just bought
the bike a few months ago, was pretty sure it was neglected as far as
maintenance goes. Only rode it a few times, wanted to go over it real
good first. The rear brake seemed pretty ineffective so I figured it
was partially siezed or gunked up. Tried it with the caliper off the
rotor and both pistons seemed to work just fine, pads are original and
still beefy. I disassembled the caliper and it was surprisingly clean &
gunk-free inside. No trouble gettingthe pistons out. There is some
corrosion at the top of the pistons above the hydraulic seal but below
the dust seal. Was going to take a chance and clean everything up but
if there are alternate parts availbale, I will rebuild w/
new.............Thanks for your help!.....(Sorry if you read the same post at the Yahoo site, got no response there yet ).....MPLATT

The rear brake is ineffective for pure stopping power, I use it for stability and smoothing out the braking process. It helps keep the front end from "diving" in hard stops. The brakes work well in tandem. Try Hayabusa for replacements.

I like my rear brakes. They're effective, but not (as narrow said) extremely powerful. Mine were also stiff and not grabbing fully, I had a shop disassemble and clean and they work like new. I'd use the original bits as long as the rubber is not not damaged. A good cleaning (and flushing the line) will work wonders.
