Just a quick question... Anyone using Mobil 1? Does it cause a problem with the clutch plates? Any other oil wisdom to pass along?

Thanks!

Bubba

4T variety is what is designed for Motorcycles. Hard to find at auto parts stores but most bike shops carry it. Expensive, but probably worth it.

I know that Autozone carries the Mobil 1 4T. No...it's fine to run for the clutch.

Here's a link to an entire discussion on replacement oils:

I'm not so sure I'd use the regular auto oil. The Mobil 1 mde for high revving bikes would probably be well worth the extra cash. Remember that car gearboxes and clutches don't use their engine oil.

I use the Mobil One 15w-50 car oil in the summer in my bike with no troubles. It's 50weight full synthetic oil by the brand recommended by the manufacturer, there can't be that much difference other than the price.

Car oil vs. bike oil has been an on-going debate for years. As long as you stick to 10w40 or 15w-50 synthetic oil car oil isn't going to hurt your bike. If you feel better using motorcycle specific oil, then by all means do so. I've used synthetic car oil in my bikes for years with no problems and have no intention of paying double the price for what I feel is essentially the same oil. :-D

I'll second that Stevent. I always read things like "probably" and "I've heard" and "My buddy's bike..." when folks are giving oil opinions.

This is a first hand fact (not an opinion):

1998 Sprint 900, 68,000+ miles. Mobil 1 15w-50 changed every 4000 to 5000 miles. No smoke, no leak, no clutch slippage-EVER, 40 mpg while being thrashed, starts everyday, runs great. The Mobil 1 is available everywhere for around $4.75 a quart.

Don't be a sucker.
