First Time writer - long time reader :-D

A bit of bad news, I dumped my 02 trophy today A lady decided to enter thru the exit in a parking lot (but she told me "everyone does it, so it was OK" and "Oh Yeah - Sorry"). Anyway, I did avoid her and her car, but the bike still went down. The left side of the fairing, mirror and saddle (pannier) are pretty scuffed/scratched up (deep - through the paint). The left turn signal gone and the tank was pushed in (by the fairing). Sorry to vent , but my question is - does anyone know how easy / tough it is to repair the fairing (and tank). Again, no signs of cracks.

If anyone has had repairs like this in the past, how bad was the damage ($$$).

Thanks in advance - Peace

When someone who decided to steal my bike figured out that they couldn't roll it away, just let it drop on it's right side.

The signal light, the plannier cover, the front/center fairing, and the muffler were damaged. There was no damage to the tank. Cost to replace the above was about $1,200 including labor. TG for insurance.

I replaced only the fairing, signal light and plannier cover for $750 in parts (unless someone pointed out the muffler scuff, you would never see it and replacement was $450!!!).

Without insurance I would have taken it to a body shop and figure on a cost of about $500 - the signal light would have to be replaced.

The claim did not effect my cost for my policy renewal with Progressive Insurance

We do motorcycle repair for our local shops here in Ohio. (This is not an advertisement for business, btw) We do a lot of that kind of work.

You have a couple options:

1. replace - quick, easy, costly
2. repair - longer, less costly
3. combination of 1 & 2

Repair is pretty easy on most body panels if they are not cracked badly.

I can't comment on how costly as it really depends how extensive the damage is. Some repairs are cheaper to buy new as the labor involved in attempting a repair. Secondly good painters for motorcycles are in demand and you may wait a good bit of time for repairs to be completed.

If you are thinking of footing the bill yourself and can wait until winter, painters are more inclined to give better prices than in the summer when they are slammed.

Check with a few motorcycle dealers for painters in your area. Most dealerships regularly use painters to fix their own bikes.

Sorry for your bad luck. My wife just went throgh the same thing except this guy had a pickup truck coming out the in and she tried the burm thing and dropped her sprint st.

Thanks for the info.

I just got the repair cost quote back and it is approx. $3,200. Includes tank, center stand, fairings, pannier, etc... Sounds like a lot but insurance will cover most of is and I figure, since the bike is basically new, might as well go with full replacement parts vs repairing the parts.

Hopefully, I'll get the bike back soon. 8-)

Glad things are working out for you and the insurance is going to cover most of it. I agree with your point since it is relatively new to replace parts. Good Luck, hope your back on the road soon.
