Has anyone attempted to use an auxillary fuel cell with their Trophy. Sampson makes one and one of there custom tanks featured a trophy with a neat tank on the back end .....problem is a needed fuel pump and drilling the tank...Is there a simple way to hold more gas without duct taping a 5 gallon to the side of the bike? :???:

32 mpg at 65-70 mph.......that is not touring bike mpg.....drops dramatically over 80-85 mph. If you read all the mileage posting that seems to be a more common situation on a 1200 than the 40-45 that some report. I am sorry 180 miles on a touring bike knocks it out of touring category.....and moves it in to weekend on the back roads bike. It is amusing to see the new XR-14 Connie by Kawasaki...that bike is running a 5.8 gallon tank and will never get more than 28-30 at legal speeds. I have riden three 1000/24 hour runs and frankly the gas stops are annoying.

I see your point. My 900 is a 40-45 mpg machine and I don't mind stopping roughly every 3 hours.

I too saw that the new Concours was coming out. It seems that all the Japanese manufacturers are following the same recipe and are cooking up heavy-ish, thirsty machines. And here I thought that my Sprint was big when I bought it. Now it's a light weight.

Its good to see that there are more 900 trophy`s that has the same mpg as mine, I`m pretty happy with mine, and its like sailfish around 42 to 46 mpg. D don't need an extra fuel tank on my bike. When its time to fill her up, I`m in serious need of some coffee.

I have been reading the posts of people with 32 MPG 1200s and don't get it. I ride agressively and never get that low. I can run it at 85 and 90 the whole tank and still get better than 32 MPGs. Wonder what the difference is? I normally get in the 40's.

I rode the Natchez Trace (50 MPH) from Natchez to Nashville a couple years ago and got in the mid 50 MPGs. I only use premium unleaded in the bike, I weigh 175lbs (but when I travel the bike is loaded with all the gear needed to camp, cook, and maintain the bike). On interstate travel I never have to go to reserve b4 215 to 230 miles on the tank and never put more than 5 gallons in it when I stop.

I still wonder why there is so much of a difference with the same bike??? Seems to me that 10 plus MPG diference is not normal. If I rode like an old lady on her way to chirch, I might not be so perplexed by the difference, but I ride fairly hard, and will break 100 MPH to pass 18 wheelers.

Sorry to rant on, just that I plan to buy another Trophy if this one ever gives it up or gets wiped out and don't want a bike that get's less MPGs than my car.

I recently went on reserve at 170 miles. It took 5.2 US Gal to fill back up. So, 32.7 mpg. I believe I've seen 36 - 38 mpg in the past.

I spent most of that tank riding between 85 and 100 mph @4-6K rpm on the interstate. Maybe 60 miles in town, stop and go between work and home.

I usually use 92 octane.

I'll try to run between 3 and 5K rpm on this tank and see if it improves.

I got about the same mileage you did running home from my in-laws up north labor Day weekend. I was running between 85-100 mph also. If I am just riding around town or doing the backroads, I usually get in the mid 40's for mileage.

Range is fine for me. My butt usually makes me stop long before the tank hits reserve.

What sprocket combination is everyone running. That could be the difference. I have been through several sets and remember trying a sportier set up and got worse gas milage touring. I'll have to check and see what I'm running right now. Also, I run a K&N air filter and modified pipes.
