Just got a '99 Trophy 900 with 30k on the clock (great bike), but am finding the gearshifting to be a little clunky. Is this normal or something I should get looked into (had Jap racing bikes before so not to used to this problem).

After riding a lot of Jap bikes, I found the same thing on my '99. Just takes a lttle getting used to; but their trans, like their motors, are relatively bulletproof. I found that you have to SHIFT it, not just rise your left toe.

Thanks Bill, Hopefully I'll get used to it.

know what you mean i have a classic thunderbird and it has to be shifted positive and at lower speeds around 2500-3000 rpm. and preload shifter (raise lever slightly before shifting)a technique i learned here very slick .

I don't have a problem shifting at high RPMs but it needs to be a positive shift.

Down shifting is the same way.
