Ok guys, I have a 1999 900 trophy with 53k on the clock. She has been doing real well up until yesterday.

Having just traveled 40miles into the middle of London the engine suddenly cut out. I noticed steam coming from under the seat. I then found that plastic neck to the reservoir overflow hose was broken and the steam was coming from there. I then took the same plastic neck on the breather hose and replaced it. after about ten minutes the bike started up again and I was off. I traveled another mile or so and she stopped again. This time I waited almost half an hour before starting her up and then I managed to travel the three miles I had left to go.

This morning I noticed that the reservoir was fairly empty and I filled her up. I then traveled for about 30 min in town and suddenly the same thing happened again. It then took three more stops to let her cool down before I could get home. My triumph dealer tells me it could be the radiator pressure cap...

I am in desperate need of the bike over the next few weeks. Any ideas?

Best Bob

Sounds like the head gaskets gone. Check your oil for water contamination. Waters got to be going somewhere and if its not leaking out (rad cap, leaky hose etc) the engine must be drinking it.

Yep, the cooling fan is working. I guess I will have to drain the oil to see if there is water in it...unless there is another way?

Are you getting any smoke out the exhaust? If you have a blown head gasket leaking that badly I would suspect you would see it coming out the muffler. I would drain the oil anyways to make sure. Coolant will wipe a motor fast.

The Trophys do have thermostats, sounds like a bad one. Also, that plastic fitting on the resevoir hose, trash it and replace it with a brass fitting. I went thru a couple of them before replacing them with a brass fitting. Bigern.

Hi Grace!

Nope, not the Undertaker, although i've nearly meet him a time or two! Just Bigern, or Ernie. I've got a sister down in Howe, spent most of vacation as a kid there when my grandparents owned the house. We will have to get together (with your husband around of course  ) and do some riding. I moved up here to Tahlequah 9 months ago after living in NW Florida for about 12 years. That totaled Trophy, is it a 1200? I've been on the hunt for a 1200 motor to build a dragbike.

Hey Ernie,

Small world sometimes. My husband does know a guy he calls the undertaker from Talequah who is a bike nut. I sold the 1200 Trophy I wrecked to the insurance company so I could get another one. The dang thing sold for $2700 at the salvage auction. Give me a shout sometime when you are in the area. We can ride. I may be up in the Talequah area this weekend at Lake Tenkiller. I will send you a message if I am.
