I like to ride the corners and am often in rain. Softer tires keep me safer but wear out in the centre due to my long rides to work. Any suggestions as to how I can still enjoy the corners but still affort commuting to work?

No one has replied because it always starts a BIG debate.
Go back and check the tyre threads on this site. If you are REALLY into knee dragging, I suppose another set of wheels would be the answer. Most of us are happy with the Avons.
Sticky tyres will not save you from trash, dogs, cats, or idiots on public roads. I believe track days are the time and place for hanging it out. Don't get me wrong, I push the bike kinda hard too. I try to do "All things in moderation" as a rule.
Cheers,
Tom.

THE best set that I've had so far, without question is Metzelers Z-6. They exceeded all others milage by 30% (I got 8k out of the rear, best before was 6k). It's the only set of tires that I've dragged bike parts with. They're great in rain. It's the only front that hasn't cupped for me.

Tom is right, this is always quite a debate. I am one of the few (it seems) still running the BTO20's. I just replaced the the rear after getting an impressive 12K out of it. That was after getting 13K out of the stock Bridgestones. My front also has 12K on it and still has some life in it. I don't have a good reason to switch to another brand with my experience so far.
Ride on.
Paul

A TIRE THREAD???!!!! :2guns:  Seriously, this is one of those things that have been debated to death. I didn't respond to this when I first saw it because no one else had and I thought I would let it die on it's own. Do a search of this forum Mr. Chips, and you will get more info that you will ever need. Some swear by the Bridgestones, some the Avons, and some the Metzelers.
No oil threads or you get this :kck:

Its not what tire to buy its knowing who has the most miles on a set of tires and how many miles did you get. Any thing under 9K is not worth discussing. We all get 6K on what ever but who drinks from the Tyre Fountain of Youth. and rides to tell the tale?

You're right Tooth, anything these days will get you 6k. I would have used 8k as the interesting number, 9k is really optimistic, it's 50% better. If you can get 9k or better on one of these bikes then you might be riding it like the Queen would.

I'm running the new Pirelli Diablo Strada, their diablo sport-touring tire. I've got about 2k miles on them so far, and the center shows no visible sign of wearing faster than the corners. I like the twisties, and regularly scrape the pegs on interstate flyovers, ramps, local roads, etc., but the majority of my mileage is straight-line, boring highway, too.
These tires have the best grip in the rain than any I've ever ran. Had the joy of riding through a miniature monsoon, on the interstate. I was maintaining a whopping 20mph, and PASSING cars on the road. Never once did the tires hydroplane nor ever lose road feeling. I've also leaned over pretty hard in the wet, and still don't have any slippage occurring.
Granted, I'm only a few k's into these tires, but I expect them to last a good while. Pirelli claims they're putting a harder compound in the center for highway miles, but using a softer compound on the edges to maintain cornering handling. I tend to believe them, as they have excellent grip all the time.
