My wife and I plan on doing more extended trips with a few of the local sport touring riders. I have a BMW Boxercup replica based on the 1100S and we decided adding bags to it didn't suit the replica plus wouldn't provide the long range comfort we were after. Plus 1100S bags would be a 1/4 the price of a good used machine.

After looking at used BMW's, Concours etc... we found the Trophy fit our needs for comfort, power, weather protection and good pricing on the used market.. Plus I've always wanted Brit motorcycle.

MY first required mod per the wife is a rear seat rest or top box with back rest. I think finding a used Trimuph top box or new/used Givi. Any recommendations?

The bike does not have a rear rack.

Dave

Hello mate welcome to the triumph family. You will need a Triumph rack to fit the top box which comes with a back rest that can be fitted to the box. Your best bet is to check out ebay, they come up from time to time although you may need to paint it to match up to your bike. There are a few breakers in the UK that will ship to the US but the boxes are few and far between second hand.
I can confirm that the pannier system is great for touring. The wife and I pack ours full and spend most summers touring France, Belgium etc.
Good luckwith tracking some down.
Ray.

I have an 03 trophy and went through a little problem in getting the factory top box from Triumph The box did not fit the rack. A little adjustment of the rack with a sander or drummel could have corrected it but. Triumph of NA openly acknowledged that some times there is an incompatibility of the two items. Ended up with sending the box back and getting a new one. Part numbers were correct but there never the less was a difference. Go figure.......bottom line in my humble opinion go factory....gee look at how great Raynewb's bike looks..........! :-D

Posted this about my top box awhile back. This knock-off isn't the same quality of an OEM or Givi case, but an excellent value nonetheless. Mine has held up surprisingly well under near-daily use.

For my time, patience and money, the Triumph cases are hard targets.

Thanks for everyones input. Looks like the first step is obataning a rack or possibly welding one up myself. I'm leaning to finding a rack since.

Raynewb thanks for the help all the way from Wales! My wife and I visit southern Wales while in the Midlands visiting family every other year however it's usually by car.

Thanks Dave,
I live in South Wales and we have an excellent Triumph breaker near by. Many on this site have used him and it is where I got my top box I paid £50, from Triumph they cost £300. Just needed to paint it as it was blue originally.
This is a link to his web site.

Dave,
Bought my rack from a beakers on the internet for about £20, a bit worn, but after a couple of coats of hammerite satin finish it looked as good as new. A new one one from Triumph would have cost £99. Bought a triumph top box c/w back rest pad (for the misses) and that cost £350 and unlike the panniers it doesn't let in water (yet), and i can fit in 2 helmets or a laptop in it. The box is a tight fit on the rack but it doesn't rattle about either. All in all, by the time i had bought a new rack, Givi top box, back pad and had it sprayed to match the bike the difference in price wouldn't have been that great. If you go for the Triumph box, don't go to collect it on your bike. Mine came in two bloody great boxes and it took me about an hour to put it all together......... worth it though. The misses finds it very comfy.... which of course, is most important.

The idea of the breakers yards seems like a good one. I may get my brother to mail parts to me in the states since he lives near Malvern. Checked out the Triumphant site and will call them.

Wife and I'll be in the UK this September but it's too far off.

Raynewb's bike looks sharp! I prefer the green over my plantinum bike. Like the platinum just prefer the green.

I bought the factory Triumph rack from a dealer, it's about $130, and then put a universal Givi mount (identical to the Thunderbikes one shown) and a Givi topcase. You can get a huge Givi case that has much more volume than the Triumph one, and the black finish blends well enough. The Givis are well made, and mine has been 100% waterproof.
