Hey guys,

My Trophy has now passed the 50K mark and is still going strong. However, I wondered if anyone knows of the kind of things that one should look at replacing or at least inspecting after that many miles.

I have heard the cam chain needs replacing after that many miles?

Any ideas?

Bob

Not far behind you Bob 44,000 on my 2000 1200.
I will be looking to get the cam chain done soon as the cost of replacing the engine far out weights the cost of a new cam chain if she should go. Other than that the usual, fork oil, brake, clutch fluid etc.
This engine is so over engineered it is good food for 100+K and the cam chain will probably last the life of the engine but its really not worth taking the risk.
Hope you enjoy another 50k on her. I have been looking for a replacement but nothing currently out there enspires me to part with the Trophy.
Ray

I had a Trident I ran over 50K before I had to sell her. I looked at replacing the cam chain and tensioner but as you Say, over engineered the thing was like new. My advice is if you think it might need changing check the tolerances first you might be wasting your money. When I spoke to my dealer about tensioner and chain replacement, at the time, he said he hadn't come across one that needed it yet! These are no tin pot engines. I'm not saying they don't wear out or break but they are tough old boots so I say Agni check before you buy parts you may never need. Oh by the way I sold the Trident to a Friend who commuted in and out of London on it for a good while, still has it and the only issue he has had since he took ownership was the fuel tap failing on him.
If you're interested I ran 10w40 semi sythetic oil and cahged the oil every 3k and the filter every 6k and have kept that tradition with my T3 Speed Triple.

Cheers then

Nic

Have a little over 68,000 and would not hesitate to head out on a trip of any length. I rolled 60,000 about 1200 miles from home and 66,000 close to 1000 miles from home. These bikes are built for the long run. I have chatted with people claiming 120,000 and more and they say the same. Noone so far has told me anything about changing the cam chain.

Regular services and synthetic oil is all I've done. I can go out after 2 weeks of not riding and she starts right up.
