45 min. out on a trip to the Smokeys I got hit with a micro-burst that moved me left 3+ feet in a heart beat and took me into the median. The grass was long and very wet. Slidin' @ 60mph ain't fun. Have never felt wind like that! I'm a skinny guy, with gear and all I put about 250lb. on the bike, this gust just manhandled me. I've been ridin' for 25 years and didn't know something like this was possible. She stayed on her right side the whole time and still runs(my buddy rode her from the scene), no fluid leaks that I can find but the red "!" idiot icon is lit. Mirror, turn signals, fairing and right handle bar, right foot peg are wasted, I'm sure there's more but I don't have the heart to delve into it right now. Thankfully I'm ok. A burn on my right heel about the size of a quarter and rash on my right ass cheek, if my wallet was in the proper pocket the butt would be fine! Pray the insurance company comes thru for me, I hate this part the worst.

I think you have been lucky anyway, no rocks or trees to stop you. But a sad thing to do this time of year.

I had that happen to me about 10 years ago. I was riding an '80 FLH I owned at the time up to my in-laws when I saw a nasty looking storm approaching. I exited the freeway and was heading for some shelter when the microburst hit me and blew me over three lanes. Fortunately there was no oncoming traffic. Unfortunately, I didn't have a change of shorts with me. I see something that looks like that now and I just stop and park as fast and as safely as I can.

I am glad you are okay except for a few scrapes. I would much rather hear about your bike having to get fixed than you lying in a hospital somewhere.

I am also glad to hear that this turned out without any major damage to your body.

After 35 years of riding I maintain that as much as I love my Trophy it is the most difficult bike I have ever had when riding in the wind.

But strangley that dosen't stop me.

Thanks for your words. The more I think about it the more amazed I am by the whole event. I just laid a bike down doing 60+mph and came away with a sore rear end! God must truly love me.
Took the girl into the shop, I am impressed. She did exactly what she was designed to do. Once on her side she stayed there, 90% of the damage is cosmetic, 4 body pieces, foot peg, mirror, throttle and brake lever. My buddy is so impressed he's thinking of trading in his "Connie" on a used 1200! He said his "Kow" would have been totalled.
Thanks again,

Narrow...........
Saw your bike at Hind's lucky man that you were not hurt. dont you love the price of repairing this one. Be patient you probably wont see her the rest of the summer. Had somthing similar happen to me on 75 out side of Knoxville in the "mountains" I hate the wind on a Trophy..........

$3300.00 for repairs. All in parts except 6hrs. labor. $700 for a gas tank! I'm going to really make this thing mine. I can get a complete set of soft luggage and a new jacket for the cost of the right pannier.

Wow, that is some serious green. To think I was complaining about replacing the pannier on one of my side bags when it disconnected from the bike and got scratched up. Still be nice to get it done and get back on the saddle. Glad only the wallet is hurt.

Ride on.

Alternative option for summer ? There is a 1995 model 900 on Ebay at $3500 with 18000 miles. Buy it for the money you would spend on repairs and you have a summer ride and a source of good parts from the 2001 which could upgrade the 1995, as there is only minor mechanical upgrades between the 2 models. :hammer:

Thanks netmaker, I think I can get her back on the road for under a thousand. I can't express how impressed I am with this bike. There is nothing seriously damaged. 90% is cosmetic. A foot peg, brake lever, mirror(it's the right side so she's still legal as is) bar end weight(which I have) and the rest is plastic and fiberglass. I could ride her tomorrow. As I said before.. God must love me.
