I'm looking into one of these bikes. From what little I've been able to find & read, most of the thoughts on the scooter is favorable. What's the little thing about the 1200 that a prospective owner should know? What about chain maintaince? I haven't had anything with a chain in years. Can one perform all the maintaince on the bike himself? .. I thank you in advance for your answers & help.

Several weeks ago I bought my first Triumph. A '99 Trophy 12 with about 12,000 miles on her. The bike I sold was a Concours with 102,000 miles. The Trophy is about the nicest bike I've owned in quite a while - and I've had quite a few over the years.
I don't feel the chain is a problem (like you, I've had shaft drive bikes for years). The adjustments are simle and quick and maintainance is easy as well.
I love the way the bike handles and I especially love the attention it gets on the road or in a parking lot.
I've put on about 1,600 miles in the past 3 weeks and love every mile of it.

Bill, thanks for the info. I'm hearing very few bad things about the 1200. Do you do much 2-up riding? I'm a fat boy & mama 6', do you think there would be a problem w/ seating room, or leg room?
Thanks again for your help..
Brett

Hi Brett,
The best thing to do is, just like buying a suit or a pair of boots, find one and sit on it, the both of you. No other way to be sure of how it'll be.
Good Luck: Jim

Brett,
My wife and I ride two up and love it on the 1200. PLENTY of power and tourque. We run about 360lbs between us but the bike has plenty of spare power.
I did add the Ohlins shock in the back as we bottomed quite regularly. I was the perfect answer and allows remote adjustment to the swag. I put Race Tech springs with emulators in also and am quite happy with the results.
Buy the Trophy, you won't be disappointed.

Jim & Tom, thank y'all for your replies. Jim, the closest dealership doesn't have a Trophy, so I'm gonna have to look around. But you're right... I really need to set one.
Tom, thanks for the suspension info. If I go this way, I'll know what to do  ... appreciate it!

Just adding to eveyone else, I've put 18k trouble free miles on mine in a year and love it, I don't ride two up much but I'm 6' and pretty well fed myself and I have no problem getting down the road. I did get a custom made seat for it and I added Gen-Mar risers which makes the big pretty well perfect for me.
As far as chain's go I haven't had to adjust mine once in all those miles. I check it with a ruler and it's stayed right at the recommended freeplay the whole time. :-D

Corbin makes a great seat for the Trophy and gives the rider more room but at the sacrifice of the passenger. I do very little two up. The only other bike you may want to consider is the Concours. It's about as carefree as you can get and parts are readily available.
Having had both, I am happy that I went with the Trophy. But then I have the Corbin, I ride solo and I'm 5'11" and about 190lb.

Thanks Bill! I used to run a Corbin on my Road Star.. nice saddles... but one cannot...neigh.. must not let one's spouse suffer in the area of comfort :-D :-D
I've looked at the Concours, and still concider it.... shoot, I could just about trade the Road Star even for a new one.... they don't sell very well in this part of Arkansas. But then, I'd think I'd like to have a try at some British iron for a bit.
By the way.... I ain't seen 190lbs since I was 16 or so.... at least then.. it was more muscle than fat!! :-D
Thanks for your reply..
