Hi Dogdoc
I have a 95 Trophy, as far as I know the only difference is in 96 the made the faring much taller and wider. The drive train is all the same. The motors are strong and built to last. there are a few things that I feel were design flaws, the left side engine cover must com off the change the front sprocket. To lock a helmet you have to remove the seat. To service the air filter you have to remove the faring sides, fuel tank, and carburetors before you can remove the air box, not exactly a five minute job.
On the plus side they are a comfortable ride with plenty of power and they handle pretty well. The one thing you should do if money will permit is to up grade the suspension, original is just OK.
Hope this helps
