Recently ran across a 2000 Trophy 1200. Bike has 4400 mi. some nice accessories. I know the bike has mad power. I know it is comfortable Two up. I love the Triumph Triple, as I owned and loved a 2000 Sprint ST. What can you all tell me about the 1200 Four?

C'mon guys. I know there has to be Trophy 1200 owners that will be willing to give a guy some input. Is it a dream? Does it fulfill all your riding expectations? Is it worth purchasing?

You'll find the 1200 Trophy will handle a bit differently than the Sprint. It is heavier, with softer suspension. Further, the suspension is not adjustable outside of rear preload and rebound damping. Still, it handles well in corners for a big bike, and floats down the highway with absolutely no effort. You can loaf along at 75mph on the highway at about 4000rpm with plenty of power to spare for passing (or zipping up to 120 or so on especially boring stretches of road  )

Luggage capacity is the same, but the fairing and windshield keep you out of the wind and weather better than on the sprint. The gas tank is considerably bigger, but then again, miles per gallon are lower than the Sprint's.

The night before I purchased my bike I laid awake in bed for hours trying to decide between the Sprint and the Trophy. I loved the handling and power of the Sprint, but in the end I went with the Trophy. The relaxed ergos were the deciding factor, since my knees and wrists aren't what they were 25 years ago.

Thanks JK,
That's exactly the type of info I was seeking. The Trophy now has my attention. I guess a good test ride will be the deciding factor. :-D

Also, consider if you'll be carrying a passenger or not. The passenger seating on the new Sprints leaves a lot to be desired for my wife. The footpegs for passenger are way to high for her. I have a Legend & a Trophy, and she loves the ride on both of them.

Some input on the big Trophy. I bought mine new in June of 2002. It was a step up compared to my Honda Nighthawk with 68,000 miles on it. I really wanted a sport tourer that was comfortable with good fairing protection. With the exception of the fuel starvation issue the bike has been great. Motor is strong but not as fast as a Sprint. Bike is big but way lighter than a main competitor, the ST by Honda. Ride is bulletproof. Bike is made to soak up miles and it looks good doing it. I've been to FLA a couple of times with it. I can't tell you how many comments I get with it. It is an original.
Good riding,
Freddy

I just bought a '99 Trophy 12 after many years on Jap bikes. My '86 Concours had 102K on her when I sold her. I considered another Concours but loved the lines of the Trophy and I'm glad I went that route. I traded for a Corbin seat with a backrest and that made a big difference in that there is more room for me to move around when ridding.

The bike came with a shorty windshield which is fine for summer riding but I have a Clearview medium on order to cut down on the noise.

Enjoy the Trophy and don't look back.
