Hi,

I'm replacing a lot of parts of my Trophy. After replacing the sprockets and chain, I noticed that the chain is dragging over the frame (or is it intended to be dragging over a protecting drag guard). Also when I take the bike from the center stand and sit on it.

Can you tell me if this is supposed to be this way? What is it like at other Trophy's?

I can imagine that the sprockets have been chosen to big: 19:44.

Hi Molletje

Yes I believe you should have a 18 tooth front sprocket. Both my 95, 1200 Trophy and my wife's, (legendgirl) Legend TT's chain does roll on a sacrificial metal part on the bottom side, both on the center stand and on the side stand.

I just ordered a new chain and sprocket set from Great Bay Triumph. Did your chain come with a master link with a clip, or a rivet type link.

I'm not sure what type of link I ordered. At first I ordered a endless chain of DID, but it was in backorder and delivery would take until half May. So, I found a Triumph dealer who had a chain in stock and was willing to close the link for me with a professional tool.

I think I will try th 19:40 configuration tomorrow. These sprockets came with the new chain and are used on Trophy's of 99 and later. It will only make the bike accelerate a bit less fast (and at the same time more economic of course).

Do you know if the sacrificial metal part can be replaced?

Other Motorcycle: Can't afford two!
Extra Motorcycle: Three would be insane
It will only drag when the bike has no weight on it, it's more of a rest than a slider so I wouldnt worry about it.

The 19:40 sprockets have been fitted and today I drive 100 km. It drives very smooth but I'm still not sure if the chain is dragging over the frame. Cannot reach for it anymore, now that the "tupperware" has been attached in front of it.
