Does the Trophy experience any adverse or performance issue's while traversing dramatic altitude changes, such as ridingover the Rockies, without carb adjustments over the course?

Thanks

The CV carbs are good at altitude. I ride over the Rockies every summer and bemoan all the ***** I take more than the altitude. Last Aug. I went up Pikes Peak and especially paid attention to how the bike ran. There was no stumbling or hesitation, just a little less power but that road doesn't let you run hard. You have no carburation worrys with the CVs, just enjoy the roads and the view.

I agree with sailfish. Rode through the Bighorn Mts. in Wyoming last August. Bike ran stellar as usual. Looking forward to getting back out west this summer.

I'm heading to the Big Thompson river, in the Estes Park area, for some fishing this Spring. if time permit, I'll be going on down to Phoenix to visit my God daughter.

Just started to look at DeLorme Map. Looks like the altitudes along Rt. 34 West go to ~12k.

My route is from the Great Lakes starting at ~900 ft alt.

This will be awesome!

I bought my Trophy (CV carbs) in Laramie, Wyoming (highest city elevation on the interstate system), and rode it home to Louisville, Kentucky. Didn't have one single problem with them.

Before I did the trip, though, I talked to the Triumph dealer in Denver, where the bike was originally purchased (I bought it used). I was curious if I would need to rejet or anything, when I got home. He let me know that on bikes larger than 600ccs, they don't do any adjustment to them, as the carbs aren't nearly as finnicky as the smaller bikes.

So if the dealer in Denver doesn't adjust 'em, I'd say you won't have any worries or problems.

Flat-sided CV's (not compared to EFI) seem to be the best carb for high altitude:READ HERE

THe owner's manual (the one I have is not the the one the previous owner got - i know that much) states that the Trophy possesses 4xMikuni, 36mm, flat-sided, CV's.

Tigger,

The 1200 didn't get Keihins later on? my 98 Sprint has Keihins.

I don't think that you will find a lot pavement above 10,000, however there are many passes near or above 11,000. Hoosier pass is 11,500, Monarch is 11,300, Indepencence pass is over 12,000!

I know that it's out of your way, but one of the best roads into the Rockies is 14 out of Fort Collins, up the Poudre Canyon. 14 to 40, Steamboat and Craig is my preferred route to Salt Lake City. What is really unusual is that Craig, CO has at least 3 BBQ resturants and it's not a big town. I'm rambling, but road trips are fun to talk about. Time for a new thread, Touring Colorado!. PM me with your route if you want and I'll let you know what I know about it. I've been fortunate to log many miles in Colorado and Utah. You're gonna love riding there.

Sailfish (that's a cool name)

I'm reading out of the owners manual I got with the bike. it may be incorrect and as you suggest they may be Keihins.
Out of simple curiosity I'll find out to be sure.

A picture of my platinum '01, Trophy is
Here: My new '01 Platinum, Trophy in the Triumphrat.net "submissions" album waiting for approval into the album.
You can find it on page 7.(today anyway as it's moving up in the queue. It's title is ''..LifeCycle Kalamazoo, Michigan..."
Dave is the Owner and is in the picture as well.
The previous owner was the Rat pack leader here in Michigan and kept it mint. I'll try but I ride so much. he only put ~9500 mile on it.

Now I'm rambling ...

Just came back from a 29 F / 85 mile ride. Gerbing did well; didn't phase the 300W alternator a bit.

I was maneuvering on 96 west back to Grand Rapids and while syncing up to a rather heavy flow of traffic at 80 mph I realized I was only in 4th gear! Shifted up to 6th and took in the scenery.

Back home now warm and cozy.. but my head's back on the Trophy...

P.S. Looking at the Delorme map now to see the Fort Collins route you mentioned. Thanks

I checked today - the carbs are Mikuni's.
