Ran across this guy the other day talking about his early Trophy 4 and it being a "First Edition" model built in Germany in early '95 with a very low serial number of about 232. Being a '95 Trophy 4 owner myself, i had to see this.
The bike was the early sport fairing design with a different decal package and a silver engine. Sure enough on the rear side panels was the words First Edition. Something puzzleing though was the '96 VIN decal on the frame.
The turn signal indicators on the dash were yellow also, but i didn't notice if the speedo was in KPH or MPH.
Any thoughts out there on this issue?

Hi Bigern,
I don't understand this as the Trophy 1200 has been manufactured since 1991 and as far as I am aware Triumph has never had a manufacturing base outside Hinkley in Liecestershire England. Prior to that the bikes were made a Meridian near Birmingham England (commonly called preunit bikes).

I had an early 1200 manufactured 1992.
Baffeled
Ray.

Hey Ray,

The bike looked just like yours as far as the wheels and engine paint and exhaust goes. But it was a wierd color of blue and had different decals. My '95 looks like yours except for different wheels, a grey motor, and black exhaust with stainless covers on the mufflers. (BRG of course!)
Oh well...who knows!

Big Earn: Where'd You get your 95 Trophy 4? I owned one from late 95 to 01 when I bought a Sprint ST. It was BRG, with Micron cans, Dynojet stg 3 jet kit, ignition advancer and a Corbin with 1" bar risers. Bought it from Maxey's here in OKC. It was sold to a guy in Ardmore, and I lost track of it. It dynoed out to 110 bhp on the dyno at Eurosport Cycle in Ft Worth. Great sound and bags of torque! Cheers, tommyturbo2

Hey Tommy, I bought the bike about ten years ago while living in north Florida. It's still in beautifull shape and runs like a banshee.
Oh, by the way...with modifications, (ignition rotor, carb work, K&N filter and modified exhaust) i'm dynoed at around 125hp and just over 100ftlb of torque.

Yes, before Hinckley, Triumphs were made in Meriden, but not a all Meriden bikes were "pre-unit" bikes. Triumphs made before approximately 1963 or 1964 had a seperate engine and transmision that were not built within the same casing. Later, the bikes had the engine and transmission within the same casing, thus called a unit construction. The unit twins from Meriden did not share engine oil and transmission oil like the Hinckley bikes do. Once the unit construction bikes were made, those that were not unit construction then became referred to as "pre-unit" bikes, referring to the engine case and transmission case, as stated above, being seperate chunks of metal. As for Meriden, that factory was built after WWII, when the Coventry plant was bombed by the Germans.

I don't understand how a bike built in '95 could have such a low frame nunber. My 1200 was built in'91 and is frame number 323.
The first 1200's were exported to Germany, so perhaps it was an early model which was only registered in '95?
A friend of mine has a 2005 registered TT600, though the bike was built in 2002.

Incidentally, if anyone knows the whereabouts of my old 1200, I would be interested in buying her back - it is still registered and taxed in England.
