Engine noise

1996 tRIUMPH TROPHY 900, WITH 33,000 MILES.

Just purchased the bike. It has sat for several years. No Known Triumph owners in the area to talk to, and no local dealerships to hang out at. Looking to you guys and gals for answers.
I am concerned with an engine noise. It makes a whirring, turbo like whine that rises and falls with engine RPM. The sound is always there, not overly loud but always there. Have read a few posts stating that this is typical of the triples, and also due to straight cut gears. Bike has fresh Castrol Syn. and oil filter.
Is this normal for this bike?

Thanks in advance

Having not heard the actual sound from your bike I will still guess the sound is normal. My Speed Trip makes the whirring/wizzing sound and so does my 4cy Trophy. Don't know why but it's there.

Could it be that the balance shaft is adjusted too tightly. Overtightened and the balance gears will be tightly meshed causing a whine and too loose the gears will rattle.

You are going to have to find another one to compare it to. These engines are mechanically very noisy from new, although they tend to sound just the same with another 100,000 miles on them

Thanks for the prompt replies.
Did not know the balancers were adjustable. I have the Haynes book so I will take a look.
The sound almost sounds like a whistling as if the mufflers caused the exhaust to "whistle" on exit, but I am sure that is not it.

Thanks Again

A brief follow-up.
The 900 trophy triple balance shafts can not be adjusted for gear mesh. The 1200 trophy four cylinder does have an adjustment procedure.
