side stand worry

Hi all.
My 1996 trophy 900 sits very low on side stand, it seems to be the fork configuration that attaches the stand to the bike in that over time the fork has opened up to make the bike sit rather low to which I'm fearful that it could snap.
Has anyone come across this and found a remedy like using a side stand from another bike.
I did think about removing stand and trying to close the top end of the stand but again worry it could weaken stand and one day the bike would collapse with a crash.
Any ideas welcomed.
Thanks in advance.

The earlier (thru98?) models had a short sidestand. You can cut and splice and make longer or get one for a 99+ and it is about 1 1/2 inches longer.

First I've heard of a longer stand being available, but I have firsthand experience with a bent bracket on a '96 Trident (and the associated mirror, lever, signal, etc., replacements...). It looks like shimming the stand or closing up the clevis the stand attaches to will fix it, but it won't. The front of the bracket will have bent a bit to the right, and will bend a bit more as more weight is placed on it, 'til it won't hold the bike up at all anymore. The solution is a beefier bracket from an '01-up Trophy. (Or so I've been told; it's actually VIN 55072 and up.)

One of the bolts that holds the bracket on screws into the case or the frame or something, but the other has a (19mm? head) nut on it that you can't see. Much easier to swap brackets if you know that nut is there...

Cheers,
-Kit

I've done the same bracket and stand swap out on my '96 1200. She leaned a little too far for my liking. I tried to shimmy, etc... and had mixed results. I got mine from an '02 on fleebay. Works like a charm!

My 96 1200 also leaned too far and depressed asphalt paving. I made a shoe for the stand; a larger area 1/4" thick plate with 3 vertical posts (nails) welded to it. I then bent the nails around the foot and used epoxy clay to smooth and secure the shoe. Grey spray paint and it looks like it was part of the bike. Care must be taken to shape the plate to clear the muffler when in its up position.
