Has anyone used a compass on a bike? NewBonneville.com has one on their web site (http://www.newbonneville.com/html/compass.html) and I'm wondering if this would be useful. I have a tendency to lose my sense of direction if I turn more than twice and just knowing in what direction I'm pointed would be helpful.

Don't tell me about GPS; I know enough about it to find it intriguing but I'm too cheap to spend that much when using a map is more fun. :-D

I tried one when I first arrived here but in the mountain area I ride the roads constantly change direction and all four directions can be travelled in every half mile. So now I just get lost and enjoy the ride until it is time to find a freeway and go home. :-D

The sun rises in the East and sets in the West...as long as your clock is working, you shouldn't need a compass. If you really feel that you need one, there are some very good pin on types that hunters and hikers use. Just pin it on your sleeve or tank bag, etc. and you should be all set.

Sorry about the opening comment..I just couldn't resist that one!!! Jim

I tried, being ex-army and liking maps and old-fashioned navigation, but like Netmaker found that the twists and turns of the road made it difficult to rely on the compass for direction.

And if you have no faith in a direction aid, it's worse than useless.

I'll keep my compass off the bike
