My Trumpet has a new quirk lately. It's been stalling out occasionally while idling. Of course this happens conveniently at stoplights and what-not. It's idling right around 1 grand, and just as I jerk the throttle, the revs dip and it dies.

So what's up? Is the solution as simple as adjusting the idle?

Hi Dogg,

Silly question: Are you sure that the choke is pulling all the way off? That will cause the problem if it is on just a slight bit. Also, the tip-over valve on the fuel tank vent may be sticking. I've had both of these problems on my '02 1200.

Hope this helps a bit: Jim

Yup, choke is off. How should I go about checking the tip-over valve? (Sorry if this is a dumb question, I'm slowly picking up my mechanical skills).

Had a stall at idle problem on my 98 Sprint (about 30K). Check out the thread in the Sprint section Page 7 (2-26-2005) and see if it sounds familiar. Mine just quit without any throttle input.

Mine turned out to be the ignition pickup sensor on the bike.

Sounds like you need to turn up the idle a frak. just a hair. That should take care of it, Its the way these are jetted, now that its colder out the air is denser and the lean mixture is now a bit leaner so just raise the idle. I hope this helps you , a tech at a dealership told me this when I complained of the same problem.

Now for another dumb question. What is the easiest way to adjust the idle? I've read about a few ways to do this. Thanks for all the help.

My 1996 model has a nice black thumbscrew on the left hand side of the engine assembly.

Clockwise decrease counter increase.
