Hey Everyone -

I'm considering a 1200 Trophy, there is a 95 for sale in my area. Anything to look out for? Overall comments? How hot does it get behind the fairing in summer? The last Full-fairing water-cooled bike I owned was an 85 K100RT, and I would get heat rash on really hot days.

Thanks,

Dan

I know Legendgirl has a 95 1200 and so do a couple of other people on here. Might try private messaging her and ask, or hopefully she sees this and can answer you.

Just got mine in May this year, and I love it. It does get rather hot behind the fairing due to heat generated by the engine (seems more right side than left). But the temp guage stays where it shoud (actually to the cool side, even when I had the leak discussed below). Only problems I've had is the battery went south 3-4 days after I got it (to be expected for ANY used purchase) and the cooling system started weeping on the left side at the fitting going into the valve cover. I fixed it pretty easily with grey 999 sealant from Autozone (designed for fixing import water pump housings and thermostats). I did that because it would have cost me $8 to get a $.95 gasket since there is not a dealer local to me and the one 120 miles away was not interested in ordering it for me when I was there.

Anyway, no problems so far. Mine had 35k on the clock when I got it and I've only put on 1k since. But that number is about to rise soon. :-D

love my 1200 trophy

bought a 95 in July with 16,000 miles on it. It now has 25,000 three months later and never missed a beat ,in 107 degrees this summer and today at 5000 feet up in the Cascades just above freezing. the only thing that has ever happened was from the mochanic at I-90 motorsorts, the new non oem bolts holding the side stand safety on fell out, he had just put them in durning the big service and check everything service when I got the bike. I found out it didn't work when the side stand I thought was up wasn't and dragged around a corner. This is my concern after much trouble with BMW service that got so bad I won't ride a BMW ever again. Now poor Triumph service has me concerned, which makes 5 life threatening happenings from dealer service departments over the years. Two loss of front brakes, one engine oil loss while riding, one throttle stuck open, one front fender falling off while riding,I think there's more. Any way with any bike finding a good mechanic and dealer is difficult and if you can do it yourself then that's the way to go.
