Have just fitted a 1200 Daytona Engine to my Trophy. I have kept the Trophy Down Pipes and Standard Exhausts, but will be fitting a K&N and removing internal baffles from the airbox, keeping the snorkels.
Any opinions on the type of DynaJet Kit I should fit? Daytona or Trophy? Were the carbs basically the same between the two models?
Also, should I fit a Daytona ignition box or keep the Trophy one? I have heard that cuting the loop back wire mores the rev limiter up to 11,000? Is this true?
Thanks,
Bel

Keeping the stock trophy exhaust?? I would swap that out for something - anything - less restrictive. A d&d if you are on a budget, Staintune if not.
As far as jetkit, I would use whatever was used by someone that did the exact thing you are doing. Who this would be I don't know. Chances are, you will not be able to use a 'drop-in' installation kit as you are doing some major non-standard mods, aka modifying the stock trophy 1200 airbox internals and mating the result with a daytona 1200. You will need a pro shop with a dynojet or factorypro dynomometer, gas-analyzer, etc. They will most likely have to fiddle with different jet sizes like they had to with mine. The stock factorypro jetkit jets did not work well once we removed the airbox entirely. I do know that Factorypro makes seperate jet kits for Trophy 1200 engine and Daytona 1200. I couldn't say how or even if jetkits are interchangeable between these two models. However you are in a totally different arena so what I did won't apply other than very generally.
Should be quite an adventure, let us know how things progress!
ps...REPLACE THE PIPE! did i say that already?

In case you didn't read Birdwh's reply, CHANGE THE PIPE  . Seriously, if you are going to go through the mods to the airbox, the only way you are going to see good results is going to a less restrictive exhaust. I also agree with the jetting advice. I guess as a starting point I would go with a Daytona 1200 kit and work from there. I am also not sure about the rev-limiter.

Yeah, guesd as much.
I am looking at pipes at the moment, with Quill T3s looking favourite. Bought a set of Yoshi pipes but they don't fit my bike, only the earlier ones.
As for the Jetting, I will start with the Daytona base settings and check it on a Dyno.
Still trying to decide if I should get the head flowed before fully re-assembling everything.
I have heard that cutting the loop back wire on the ignition changes it to think it is on a Daytona 1000, hence the higher rev limit?
Thanks for advice.

I am considering dropping a Daytona engine into my Trophy, as I have its original engine out of the frame at the moment.
Where did you source your engine ?
I have had a quote of £800 for a re-built one with 3 months warranty.
Is the paperwork complicated ?
What about your insurance ?
Hope you don't mind all these questions.
Err, how is it going with your bike?
Thanks.

Mine is on temporary hold while I am having my (small) garage flattened and a larger one rebuilt.
I was lucky to get the engine at a reasonable price, its just a case of shopping around and taking your choice. Easy to change the engine on the log book.
If your engine is a good one, you may be just as well off with Daytona Cams. That and a Dynajet kit seems to give around 15-18 hp with the expense of a little bottom end. Save the extra money for a light head skim and port. The Insurance Company need not know then.
Wanted to put four K&Ns on it to make the carb access eaiser, but common opinion is this doesn't work.
I also have Tockia 6 pots and Hagon Fork Springs and Shock to go on.
Will post pictures and Dyno results latter in the year when I get everything back to normal.

Would I get similar results with the 900?

Thanks Bel
I have my engine in bits now, down to the crankshaft. I've been trying to locate a mysterious, and quite loud, noise its been making. The bearing shells are a bit worn, but I couldn't say that was definitely it. I just thought, if my engine was/ is knackered, might as well put the Daytona one in. Same money, more oompf.
I shan't make any progress for a while, as I'm back to 4.0am starts for the next five weeks.. I'll post as and when I make any progress. Good luck with yours.

Tango asked: Would I get similar results with the 900?
If you stuffed a 1200 Daytona in it? Sure! Will the same tuning tricks work? No, the Daytona and Trophy 900s are identical. The Super III, now...

I think all the T3 900 engines, except the Super III, were prety similar. To get a few cheap horsepower this is a brilliant link with some proven results:

Interestingly there doesn't seem to be much to gain through changing the exhaust!!??
