Digital Speedo for 1200 Trophy

Has anyone added a digital speedo to their Trophy. Just picked up a 2002 that was originally from the US that is in miles per hour and want to indicate in kilometers per hour. I can but don't want to do the conversion in my head on the road and thought adding a digital display would be the easiest.

Thanks

You should see km/h on the same speedometer... on the inside of the ring.
At least on my US speedometer...

True, but my slightly aged eyes do not like the fine print.

Speedo for Trophy

I just put my wife on the back . . . she always tells me when I am going too fast!

On a more productive note, can the gauge be disassembled? (The obvious answer is that anything can be disassembled, but can it be reassembled again and still work, that is the real question.) Any competent laser engraver operator can make a new backplate for the gauge for you. You can find them at higher-end arts and crafts shows sometimes, selling real tiny wood carvings and/or personalized laser engraved nameplates and the like. Hell, I have a laser at work; if you can manage to get the backplate out and mail it to me, I can recoat your existing one and cut new numbers for you, as big as you want. I would do it gratis just because I would find it an interesting challenge.

Q

Unfortunately my wife has her own ride so can't let me know.

I'll check into the disassembly thing. If it does easily enough then I will try to find someone around here. Thanks for the offer though. Sounds as though the laser etching thing could be fun to play with.

Try a bicycle Speedometer

Check into bicycle speedometers. They have a little magnet that mounts on the front wheel, a sensor you would attach to your forks or brake mounts someplace, and a wire that runs from the pickup to the speedometer unit that would mount on your fairing.

They're cheap, fairly rugged, can be calibrated to almost any wheel size and you wouldn't have to take apart your stock setup. Just make sure the max speed is high enough for your needs.

Most come with additional functions; trip meters, odometers, elapsed trip times, etc. Some wireless models are available, too.

Good luck!

Thanks, I have been looking at the bicycle ones and think that is the way to go.

Hi,

I don't know if this would be of interest to you? The theory could be applied to a Trophy - see http://www.triumphrat.net/photogalle...133/album1260/

Here is the Dakota site (which offer some other ideas too): http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.c...=cat/cat60.htm

Good luck,
Geoff
