Pod replacement for air filter - anyone?

The existing air box is difficult to get to and I am thinking of replacing it with pods or uni filter. Has anyone done this, what were the results? Does the induction sound become obnoxious?

Here is a web site where a Trophy 900 has a dynojet kit installed with uni filters. The dyno chart shows a big improvement across the board. Most of this would come from the dynojet kit, but the much simpler access to cleaning the filters attracts me. I already have a K&N filter (in the air box), and going to pods will, I expect, require rejetting, but maybe someone can verify this.

http://www.dynobike.com/dynojet_kits.htm

Here is the page in the K&N web site for their pods. Same will fit my D1200. If you click the part number (RU-2780) you will bring up the specs.

http://www.knfilters.com/search/appsearch.aspx Well, I can't get the K&N site link to go directly to the correct page, so you will have to put in the particulars - year, make, model to see the pods OR just enter in the part number RU-2780.

Folks have tried, with mixed results. Altering the air intake flow doesn't just affect the carbs, re-jetting doesn't seem to be enough to achieve top performance. From my experience the air filter shouldn't have to be maintained very often.
Carry on!

If you have not done it yet, cutting the back side of the airbox in half facilitates a much easier removal when needed. I cut mine with a very thin bandsaw and just put a little RTV on the seam when I put it back together.

Thumbs up Done Did It!

Replaced my filters with the K&N. It was truly a pain to get at to make the change, but once the stock filter was out, the air box can be reconnected to the four carb inputs before the K&N gets slid in from the side. Makes things a whole lot nicer. Model TB-9091 requires that you cut a couple of tabs off of the unit, but it was actually less expensive than the Triumph air filter at about $50. The Trumpet seemed to breathing a lot easier, and even noticed a change in my riding temps too, though hard to tell with the cooler weather now.
My take is that it's a smart move, but admittedly I only have a couple of thousand miles on the new air filter. Ask me again in another 20.

I haven't been there yet. The only thing I did do was remove the snorkel and inlet airbox which leads to the filter box. With the cooler weather I then started getting some serious hesitation when aggressively rolling on the throttle. Less hesitation when the engine warms up but it's still there. So I put the plumbing back in this past weekend and it hesitates a bit less but still hesitates.
I plan on getting back into it during the holidays and installing a K&N filter that came with the bike. I'm also planning on upgrading the coils.
We'll see what happens.
