Newbie Questions

I bought a 03 Trophy about a month ago an so far I love it. I changed the oil and filter when I got it home. I used a Fram filter and Mobil 1 10W40 oil. I put in the specified amount (3.95 quarts). The manual says that the sight glass should be 1/2 to 3/4 full when the bike is on the center stand but mine is completely full. Is this a problem?
Also, the previous owner took a long bit and drilled up through he muffler for a better sound. I'm not sure if he did one hole or several, I guessing one. I've notice no difference in sound (compared to another Trophy) and no difference in performance. Is this a problem? I think I get an ever so slight wiff of fuel when the motor is running but it could also be my imagination.
Lastly, when I start the bike cold I pull on the chock and it will start right up. It will idle at about 1500 rpm for 20 seconds or so and then race to about 3500. Is this normal? Given a minute or so to warm up it runs flawlessly.

I was told by a VERY GOOD Triumph mechanic, just to pour the entire gallon in when you change oil. The amount of .05 gal isn't significant and will not hurt a thing.I've been doing that since the first time I changed oil, have 54000 miles on my '01 1200 with no ill effects. If you do that, and have let all the old oil drain, then a full sightglass is no problem. Can't comment on the bafflectomy as mine has had aftermarket mufflers since I got it.(wanted it to sound like a motorcycle instead of a sewing machine). As for your warm up question, mine has always taken a couple minutes of slow idling with the choke on before it races. As long as you let it warm up properly before riding this shouldn't be an issue.Enjoy your Trophy.

Sounds normal. Never could understand the oil ratings, mine calls for 5w50 synthetic but runs quieter and shifts better on standard 10w40 oil.
The racing on start up is normal.
Choke on.
Push button.
Once started, walk away! Don't touch the throttle!
She'll start to sputter alittle when it's time to reduce the idle.
These motors love to rev.
Take some time and read through these threads for some good tips.
