maybe going from a Bonnie to a 96 Trophy - what to look for?

spent most of of my time in the Twins area, but the time has come for a change

Found a low mileage 1996 Trophy a couple of hours from my place.
My Bonneville has gone on to a higher place (she got hit and the insurance company is picking her up this week).

and just because I know we all dig bike pics here she is

RIP Bonnie

I'll sure miss the Bonnie, but I am looking forward to having a bike with some long legs again

I am going to take a look at the 96 Trophy this weekend

he is asking around $3,500 but it is reported to have less than 15,000 miles

I have looked through the messages and see the issues about sprag clutches, alternator bolts, petcocks and the like but was wondering what to keep an eye for specifically on a 1996 900 Trophy

I also found a 1999 900 with around 25,000 miles for similar money, but it is about a 10 drive to pick it up while the 1996 is only two hours away which makes is a more viable proposition

Unfortunately, the info on the Trophy seems to be spread apart on this forum and the Yahoo message list.

Be sure to look at the faq on the Yahoo message list.

gas and vacuum lines from the tank to the carbs harden and crack/leak.

Occasionally the fuel knob sticks and breaks internally, an easy fix.

If the 900 starts right up, with light choke, and doesn't smoke. Runs strong and smoothly.

It's probably a winner.

Any of the low mileage Trophy's are subject to having the o-rings in the carbs dry out. A clear give away is if the owner shows the bike with very little fuel in it. Generally if the carbs are leaking, it only happens overnight with more than a half tank in it.

I currently ride a Tropy 900 and just added a '06 Bonnie to the stable.
