LED Bulbs

Anyone converted their turn signal and brake lights to LED"s?
Any problems?
Worth the time and effort?

All the lights on my '03 Sprint ST have been converted to LED. It is easy to do, but you have to replace the stock flasher with one designed for LEDs due to the low current draw. Worth it? I'm not sure how to estimate that. Motorcycle charging systems tend to lack much reserve capacity, so I wanted to reduce the load as much as possible.

I went a different route. PIAA sells 23w bulbs for turn signals and brakes, running lights. I figured the extra incandescent intensity would show up better than LEDs. Don't know if they're better than LEDs, but they are brighter than stock.

DDon,

Check out this post of Narrowminded this week. He not only switched his signals to LED's but also his mirror locations since he had to replace a mirror anyway after dropping his Trophy. Maybe you can PM him for specifics.

I changed the tail light to LED's in a Yamaha Royal Star, I have since traded in on a Concours 14. The change in brightness was dramatic and made me feel much safer. It was a simple plug-in - simply remove the existing incandescent bulb and plug the LED into the same socket.

This is the site I purchased from. They don't seem to have a Trophy specific LED, but I believe there are some standard LED's that should work.

I changed a few bulbs etc recently and found the LEDs have moved on a generation..I got Superlux stop tails and side light bulbs....I swapped out my turn signals for some Oberon items but as mentioned will also need to change the relay ;-)

You can see here if you wish...http://mottleybiker.com/page33.htm

Cheers

Thanks for the info. I don't want to go through LED circuit upgrade, if I can get around it.
There are some very "inventive" people out there who have already invented the wheel and are willing to share the pros and cons.
That's what I like about this forum.
