98 Trophy 1200 Air Filter Box / jetting questions

I picked up my 98 Trophy 1200 3 weeks ago and have started going through it. It currently has 16,500 miles on it. I pulled the fairings and started checking things out this past weekend.
Amazing amount of dirt in the oil cooler!
Having read everything I can find on this great site about my items of interest I've a few questions to throw out.

I've got a 08 black Bonneville which as been NARKed with K&N pod air filters, Sceptre exhaust, and re-jetted. I did this work last winter and it runs much stronger. And sounds great.
The Bonneville is a little more straight forward than the Trophy when making these modifications because of it being naked and 2 cylinders and 2 carbs but I'm wondering if these types of modifications could improve the Trophy 1200's performance.

Concerning the air filter box. Has anyone any experience with modifying it or totally eliminating it? The bike came with a K&N filter uninstalled which I will now do. Has anyone taken off the air inlet snorkels with any effect?

Concerning jets. I read somewhere, can't remember where, that the two interior carburetors might be jetted differently than 1 and 4 because of the airflow differences created by the box design.
Is this really the case?

I've got two exhaust cans from a 99 Trophy that I'm planning on modifying.
I plan on pulling the rivets and opening them up if possible to see how they are really constructed.
I saw images of the Bonneville peashooters band sawed in half and it was amazing what the exhaust gasses had to do to get out of the hole at the end.
If the Trophy is anything like the Bonneville there is lots that can be done. If I can get through those rivets and actually do something and get it back together.

Anyway, anyone have some knowledge / thoughts / advice about this approach?

Thanks
Warren

P.S. I couldn't have done the work on the Bonneville without what I learned from RAT......

snorkels

When I built my T'bird/Trophy 1200 hybrid, I had to ditch the snorkels since they clashed big time with the T'bird side covers. Runs just fine. Induction noise is significantly increased though, but not to the point that it is intrusive.

Thanks for the response.
Did you notice any performance changes such as mileage, or richness or leaness? Or could it be too subtle?

thanks

airbox jetting mods

I had a 95 Trophy, and after installing Micron exhausts, and ignition advancer, totally removed the air box and installed a K&N stage 3 jet kit (K&N Pods, mains, slide springs and drilled the transfer port on the slides out). Stock dyno run netted 93 hp at the rear wheel, after re jet and and the above mods it dyno'ed at 107 rwhp. Ran much better and got 45 mpg. Only way to go! tommyturbo2
