I'm new to Triumphs (well not me exactly-my girlfriend is buying one) and found an 2001 1200 Trophy in Silver with top trunk. Bike only has 2950 miles on it- real clean. Anything I need to know about 'quirks' or things to look for? Have both been on Wings for 24/12 years respectively. I found it at a bike consignment shop but
didn't really need another ride (4) but have allways wanted a Sport Tourer. Rode the Trophy in '02 and loved it. Went and bought a Harley FLHTCi Classic instead. Maybe now I'll change my ways, or Maybe she'll let me ride it once in a while!

Good choice! She should be very happy with it as long as she doesn't mind waiting for you to catch up on your Harley.

Enjoy the Trophy!! They are an outstanding bike. The fairing is quite good in the wet, the mid-range torque is spot on, handling is great and the brakes will stop you on a dime and give back 9 cents change. Quirks? The only thing I've found is the temp light flickering and going on, but the bike has never overheated. There's a download about the problem in the download section. Beyond that, just ride it and enjoy.
Have fun: Jim

I'm sorry, but there's always somebody that gets the quirky bike, so here are some things that someone should know (but NOT let prevent them from owning a great bike at a good price):
top heavy (everybody knows that one) if you forget your kickstand at the gas station, you'll have to "schwarzenegger it" or break your back. With a top box and a rider: doing slow turns is VERBOTTEN! (sort of kidding). It is well known to have a high CG.
Be ready to be its Master and Commander when you get close to any truck with a box-shaped anything behind it. The turbulence can be hair-raising! Like a sail! My friends call mine the battleship. The platinum color should be just right.
Above 110mph the fairing (and attached mirrors) will shake, rattle and...blur!
Not to mention the gas mileage goes South, beyond Mexico, real fast. Slurp. Anything above 95 mph will hurt your wallet big time.
That nice, warm, toasty feeling around your legs will turn to "a day in Hell" on any hot, summer, Georgia day. Yama's FJR1300 is said to have similar problem. It's great in winter time, tho'.
Finally, my 900 never had it, but my 1200 has a vibration on the side of the tank that has put my knee to sleep on a couple of rides. I don't think that's generic to all. Hope not.
Having said all of that, I must add that my 1200 hauls butt all over the place, has gobs of torque off the line, can carry my wife and I comfortably for miles with lots of power on tap and last, where else are you gonna find a quality piece of machinery like a Triumph? (Yeah, I know, Honda, Yamaha, KTM, etc.)
Buy it! She'll like it!
