Anyone know how to change fork oil on an '02 Trophy, is there a drain plug under the axle? The owners manual states that the oil should be changed @12k, but it doesn't say how or how much or what weight

I can just replace it with the same amount that drains out, but it would be nice to have a ballpark figure to work from. :???:

Remove the front wheel, remove the front fender. Then remove the large cap on the top of the fork leg, loosen the pinch bolts on the upper and lower triple trees (yokes), coat the legs that are going to pass through the yoke holes with a light coat of oil and gently pull the fork legs out.

Turn the legs upside down to pour out the old oil. Leave them upside down for a while to let them totally drain.

The refill is not measured in fluid ounces but mm's from the top of the fork leg. The measurement is made with a tool that looks like a big syringe with a flexable tube at the end and an adjustable rigid tube at the end of that. Excess oil is drawn out with the tool. It's inexpensive and can be had through any of the aftermarket catalogs and probably through one of the links here.

Any manual for your bike will give you that measurement (in mm's) and the correct weight of oil.

Anything else you need to know about this, fire away.

Thanks for the tips, I was afraid that was the case. Maybe while they're off I'll drill and tap a drain hole at the back of the forks. :-D
