Hi from a newbie and help with starter clutch problem

Hi all, found this site when scanning the interweb looking for a resolution for my problem.
Bit about myself first, living in Scotland (The best roads in the UK......when it's not raining ) have had a 94 Triumph trophy since last November and have only done 2000 miles on it since. Just after Xmas the starter clutch went.
No stranger to triumph's as my first bike was a TT600 (2003, not the more unreliable pre 02's) and loved it till a piston dropped. Since then have had an Aprilia Pegaso 650 (Loved it and converted me to the joys of single cylinders) which I sold to get the trophy and my pride and joy….my Suzuki B-King which I bought last year and have already done 13000 miles on it. Converted those god ugly cans into twin carbon fibre yoshi's and put an R&G tail tidy on it and the rear looks much better for it.
Commute on my bike in all weathers every day (The B-king since the Trophy starter clutch went) and on average do about 20 to 25,000 miles on my bikes a year.
Love bike racing and have been to a few BSB races and to a couple of GP's too. Am a big Rossi fan.

Am loving the trophy and got it for £1100 last year with full Givi lockable hard luggage. Now am trying to get the starter clutch sorted as my girlfriend is wanting to come out more now the better weather is here (She's an enthusiatic pillion) and my wallet can't keep taking the hit of the fuel and tyres the B-king goes through!!!

Have found out that you need to take the engine out to replace the starter clutch. Ouch……the garage is quoting me £400-£500 just for labour.
Can I ask
1) Is it correct that the only way to fix the starter clutch is to remove the engine?
2) Is there anyone in my area who knows someone who will do it and I slip them £100 and a dozen beers for their troubles (and obviously I'll help them as well)
3) Any other advice would be appreciated.

Thanks everyone…ride safe

starter clutch

The earlier ones could be done through a cover immediately beneath the carbs.
Mine is a 92 and can be done thus.
I suspect yours is a later one which cannot.
Look beneath the carbs, on the right hand side.
If you have a rectangular cover, some 4" by 6", held down by 10 or so bolts, lucky you.
If not, flash the cash.
Have to say, 4-500 labour sounds too cheap.
Can't see it being a sub-10 hour job, even for a dealer, but I could be very wrong.
Talk to Sandy at Triumphant in Wales, he is a mine of useful information.
