Puzzling clutch problem ???

Hi all,
I had a very strange problem with my Trident/Trophy 1200 the other day. I rode home from work after a night-shift and the clutch started slipping under power. It got gradually worse and then the bite- point on the clutch lever moved from 3/4 to nearly all the way out. Thought it was the clutch plates but tried it again today and it's completely ok again ???
What was wrong with it ? any ideas will be appreciated.
Thanks very much, Mof.

could be the clutch push rod seizing ,take off the clutch slave cylinder(don't pull the clutch lever),pull out the rod and copper grease it. Greybeard.
