Trophy 1200 coils wires.
Hi. I am in the process of putting a 1200 motor into my Thunderbird/Watsonian GP sidecar outfit.
There have been a few engineering challenges along the way, but nothing too stressful.
I am in the final stages of the project now, and have a question maybe someone can answer.
I am using the original T'bird wiring loom but ditching the 3 coil setup and using the twin outlet Trophy coils, natch.
But which coil wire (green/black or yellow/blue) triggers which coil (left side or right side)?
And which cylinders do each coil serve?
The genuine Triumph manual wiring diagram is a bit vague on this!

the green/black is power, the yellow/blue is the trigger from the ignitor. I will be "under" the fuel tank later today and can verify which color is which side.

coil wire colours
thanks for your input, tx, but I think your statement might be incorrect, at least for 1991/2 models.
(The 2 ign pickup wires are black and purple.)
The question I am asking is this;
on the 4 cylinder bikes, which use 2 coils, the common wire to the coils is red. The trigger wires are green/black and yellow/blue.
So..........does the green/black go to the LHS coil, or RHS?
I have managed to discover that the LHS coil supplies #1 and #4 cylinders, so this is the final bit of info I seek.

Right hand side: Blue/white to negative terminal, green/yellow positive. Feeds cylinders 2 & 3
Left hand side: Yellow/white to negative terminal, green/yellow to positive, feeds cylinders 1 and 4.
Pictures in this area and the next page of my web site may help.
Edit: Just noticed, mine was for the later Trophy, checked my Haynes, colours different on earlier. Don't think these are what you are looking for, sorry.
Good luck on your project.

Sorry about the colours, I blame Triumph for changing them
Mine was a 2002, had to change it when my aged left little finger wouldn't let me use a clutch lever, hence my present bike, the Yamaha FJR1300AS (or AE in some markets) that uses an electrically operated clutch and gear change. Keeps me riding.
I do miss my Trophy, though, in spite of some problems with the bike, that engine was a peach.

The response was for the 1996 on up Trophy. You are correct on the 91 & 92 models. I guess you should have mentioned that in the post. I can't tell you any further than this. I would personally try them one way , and if it didn't work, then the other way. I can't imagine having spark at the exhaust cycle would hurt anything, and it only takes a quick push of the starter button to see if the wires are correct. It will either run or it won't. Are you also using the ignitor from the 1200 ( I hope so)?

Hi, Fred. Stupid question, what are you doing here? Got yourself a decent bike at last?
