MoT and alternators

So my £200 deal hasn't passed the MoT due to blown fork seals. Not bad, except I was then told there is a lovely rattle coming fom the alternator. My friendly mechanic, Mark (damned good chap actaully) says it could be the bearing; or the nut that holds the atlrenator on the shaft; or similar.

Has anyone else experienced this, and is it common?

How do I cure it?

had the left fork apart this evening, what a pain to undo the damper rod bolt, but we got there. Oil resembled crude oil though, not forl oil. Will get new seals tomorrow and it'll be MoTed by Saturday.

Any ideas about the rattle from the engine appreciated. Was told to take it easy until then.

I believe there's a "standard" problem with an alternator bolt that fails. No personal experience of it, but might help in a search.

It'll still be a good buy for £200.
