The orange/white wire under the fairing

As I took the fairing off to cleanup and look over things I noticed a wire with a connector under the left side (from seated position) just hanging there. Everything works and the bike runs without any faults.

Is this an accessory wire with power? I'd like to tap into that for power and I can trace it but maybe someone already knows that it is for.

Hi,

If this is a single wire with a female spade connector on the end that comes out below the tank then all i can think it could be is the coolant temp gauge wire that should be connected to it`s spade on the left hand side of the engine.

If it`s further up beside the speedo then it could well be the wire for a clock.

I don`t have my wiring diagram to hand just now but that`s all i can think of off the top of my head.

Cheers, Matt

My getting older eyes. The wire is green and black and comes from underneath the fairing upper. I'll take a picture and maybe that will help.

I don't have the service manual or anything like that but everything works, or it sure seems so. Engine and electrics all run nicely.

Ok, not a problem.

I`ll dig out my wiring diagram and see about finding out what it`s for and let you know but as it`s almost 1am here then it`ll be after i get some sleep.

Hi,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to this thread but i couldn`t find my manual.

Anyway, i`ve found it now and apparently the green and black wire goies from the low fuel sender upto the fuel gauge. You should also have another green and black going to your coolant temp sender according to this diagram.

That info is taken from the wiring diagram for a Trophy 1996 on (from VIN 29156) models.

Cheers, Matt

"Coolant temp sender" Does that go to the idiot light in the tach?

It actually comes from the coolant temp warning light or temp gauge down to the sensor. As the engine heats up then the sender connects to a greater degree with earth which in this case is the engine hence your temp gauge goes up. On bikes with just a lamp then it takes a greater heat to get the temp warning lamp to come on.
