Hi All,
I was riding home on Thursday of last week when the bike started stumbling like it was running out of fuel, but I still had half a tank showing on the guage, So I switched it over to reserve just in case but it continued to sputter till it just died.
I checked the tank and there was plenty of fuel.
After several attempts to re-start,.... nothing.
I decided to switch the petcock over to prime, wait a couple seconds and she fired right up and ran fine.
After about a mile I switched back to the "ON" positiion, and sure enough it died again, switched it back (to prime) and it ran fine the rest of the 38 mile trip home.

Any ideas??

Go here autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/TriumphTrophy/

Then read the FAQ about fuel starvation.

The petcock(fuel valve) is vacuum activated in ON and RES positions, meaning that it there is a diaphram that gets pulled open by vacuum coming from the top of one of the carbs. By switching to PRI, you can feel the switch push in slightly which is basically mechanically pushing the diaphram open. Your problem is simple, either the diaphram is leaking(most likely) or you are not getting vacuum to the petcock(hose loose or carb problem).

To test it out, pull the black hose of the of the center of the petcock and start the bike in PRI mode. You should feel a vacuum on the hose. If that is good, you'll need to rebuild the petcock. The rebuild kit is $35 from the dealership. and is easy to replace, or you can replace the whole petcock for $100
